J. Mike Guiler, M.D.

Why did you go into OB/GYN?

At the age of 5 I knew I wanted to be a doctor and made this announcement to my family. This was the result of being raised by loving Christian parents and the inner desire to help others.

My determination was strong throughout my school years and I never varied in my intentions for a life plan. As I grew older I was aware that there were different kinds of doctors and was drawn toward family practice. In medical school I was involved in research in the field of obstetrics and felt women's health was an area of interest. As a first year resident in family practice, I began a three-month experience in labor and delivery. Delivering babies was seeing a miracle happen! That rotation changed my life and I fell in love with obstetrics!

By the grace of God, an opening was created for me and I was able to jump from family practice to obstetrics and gynecology by the middle of my first year of training. During my residency I worked with several practicing OB-GYNs around the state while looking for an area to begin my private practice.

It was apparent to me that the norm was to practice in the way you were trained for your entire career. From that I became determined to be a leader in advancing improvements in healthcare and technology to provide the best possible overall care for my patients. My career as a "cutting edge" physician in the area of medicine that I love, dedicated to the care of women, is my way of offering my testimony of faith in a loving God!
